On the weekend of the 30th, we spend some time in Lancaster County (a.k.a. Amish Country) doing some work at a Quaker school and "bonding" with each other. I was a bit on the bored side as there wasn't anything I was particularly interested in doing while we were there. And I'm upset that I didn't get to try the white pizza with broccoli.
On Monday and Wednesday, we had the usual work crews.
My daycamp had no trip on Tuesday, so that Thursday was my last day there. We went to the home of these two women who had a beautiful house, a huge back and yard and a swimming pool - with a diving board. The kids were really excited about that. And between the ladies, their elderly mothers, and the help of their neighbors, I got to have a kick back day - playing backgammon with a seven year old, laying in a hammock for the first time, and most importantly, eating snacks all day.
On Friday, we had a maintainence work morning, with a break for a nice refreshing treat of "water ice" (don't ask). On Friday night, a couple of people went into NYC. I decided to stay back, which I later regretted, but oh well. On Saturday I went into Philly and found a used bookstore where I spent way too much money and now I don't know how I'm going to get all of that stuff home!
Sunday was mostly boring until our late afternoon workshop with Carrie Newcomer, a singer, songwriter, and activist. I actually met her at lunch with my director so I got to talk to her a bit before the whole workshop. She sang a few songs, talked to us, and led us in a writing exercise.
The people who went to NYC came back and told me about all the fun things they did and how I should have gone. I relaly should have - I missed them waaay to much and it was way too quiet around here without them.
We decided to go on a random trip to Philly....and Delaware. And the details are in this post (http://cogentdiversion.typepad.com/cogent_diversion/2005/08/23_and_24.html).
On to the last week!
