I guess if you're going to be a prostitute, it's good to have protection

From Wired.com:

"Where would a good prostitute be without her (or his) signature platform shoes? In trouble, that's where. The Aphrodite projects has taken steps to protect street-walkers with Platforms. The shoes have a built in audible alarm to scare off attackers, and when the alarm is triggered, the prostitute's position is transmitted to either the police (in places where prostitution is legal) or to sex worker's rights groups."

Apparently, some facts in the article are wrong, which I guess means they aren't facts. And as usual, the comments are interesting. I guess if you're going to be a prostitute, it's good to have some protection. But maybe a watch or something would be better than a shoe. When I feel my life is being threatened, the last thing I want to do is SQUAT DOWN or BEND OVER and press a button on my shoe. I'm just sayin'...

Ron Reagan's take on cell phone drivers

I have no idea who Ron Reagan is, but he's one of the MSNBC blog writers and I came across this article he wrote on cell phone drivers.  I enjoy his sarcasm.

Why no one should be a cell phone driver (Ron Reagan)

You're
driving down the highway, hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, when
you're suddenly confronted by another driver behaving strangely.

It's not that they're driving recklessly exactly—they seem more... oblivious. You pull alongside and, sure enough, they're talking on a cell phone.

Sound familiar? Of course it does.

According to the National Traffic Safety Administration, 8 percent of U.S. drivers now use their phones behind the wheel.

At the same time, new studies indicate that chatty drivers are about as safe as drunks. That adds up to 1.2 million accidents waiting to happen. Given that, it seems obvious... there ought to be a law.

“Whoa!” You say. “Hang on.  These phones are mobile for a reason—  this is what they're designed for.”

That's right, and your car was designed to plough into the back of my car when you're busy checking your messages.

Oooo, Google Maps

First, Google had to be one of the best search engines.
Then they just started going wild with other great features, including Gmail (which we all know, love, and have a billion invites for).

Many people have posted in their blogs about this already, but I just took the time to head over to  Google Maps.

Wow, I like it a lot. I mean, everything Google puts out always has nice, smooth, uncomplicated appearance, and Google Maps is no exception.  I suggest you check it out.  When you go to the main link at http://maps.google.com , you'll see some example searches...it seems like a pretty awesome new service that they are offering. I'll have to check it out when I actually need a map or directions somewhere - not when I'm just sitting here doing nothing.
